COCONUT LAGOON
Located
on the eastern shore of Lake Vembanad, Coconut Lagoon
Heritage Resort is about 78 Kms from Cochin. The
Coconut Lagoon has rightly carved its place among the top 10
heritage resorts of the world. The resort is set amidst coconut
plantations and has been designed to give visitors an authentic
insight of the 'kuttanad' lifestyle.
The
resort can only be reached by boat and its accommodation consists
of individual cottages called 'thrawads', the traditional
wooden houses of Kerala. There are 14 Heritage Mansions and
28 Heritage Bungalows. In danger of being destroyed, each one
has been brought here from different parts of Kerala and carefully
reassembled to include every modern luxury. Though some of the
cottages are of more recent vintage, many are well over a century
old and a few date back to the early 1700s.
Ettukettu,
the restaurant at Coconut Lagoon is renowned as much for its
Keralite cuisine as for its authentic settings, it is one of
the oldest structure's of the resort. Apart from the restaurant,
the resort provides leisure activities like country boat expeditions,
sunset cruises, ayurvedic massage, ‘Rice boat’ cruises,
fishing and swimming.
